Escambia County needs to fund its plan for flood protection
It’s been more than six years since Escambia County committed to spending $417 million on flood protection. However, when Hurricane Sally hit Pensacola, residents were still vulnerable.
Escambia County needs to fund the plan they committed to in 2015 and provide flood protection for residents. We've included a message to the County Commissioners below, but feel free to add your own comments or upload photos of flood damage to your house, yard, or neighborhood.
Flood Defender Michelle Tyler and her neighbors demanded the county address flooding on Monarch Lane. Following testimony to the County Commission, news interviews, and advocacy, County Engineering began enforcing development regulations.
Now, Commissioner Lumon May has instructed the County Administrator to develop a plan to address the neighborhood's drainage needs, even if it requires real county spending.
